Waiting For Superman is a documentary that explains some troubles in today's public school system. The documentary made it seem as if public schools are failure factories. It displays several students who are attempting to get into a private school, charter school, magnet school, or boarding school because of the failure of today's public school or their money problems. People were basing their hope for a good education off of a lottery. Waiting For Superman opened me up to the failures of today's school system. I really did not know some kids had it that bad with trying to get into a good school. I grew up in a town where we had two schools, private and public. Both schools had good graduation rates and met all the state standards when I was in high school. I did not have to worry about changing schools. In contrast, some of my friends in college have told me stories of them moving around trying to find a good school system so that their diploma can be worth more than the paper it was printed on. In the movie, the Superintendent for the D.C. area presented a solution for improving the public school system but it seemed as if the people were threatened by the change. They refuse to even vote on the matter. We can't change the world until we change the state of education.
Waiting for superman opened my eye up also, I knew there where failures in the school system but it hit me hard when I saw those kids crying etc. I also grew up in a town where the schools had good graduation rates and met all the state standards. This documentary made me sit back and thank god for my blessing and my family. I was truly thankful after seeing this!
